Beauty Pageant Director Slams Carrie Prejean, Gay Marriage Stance

The gay marriage debate has found its way into the celebrity gossip world.

As previously reported and depicted, Miss USA judge Perez Hilton asked contestant Carrie Prejean for her views on the controversial topic. She replied:

Perez Hilton and Speidi

We live in a land that you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage and, you know what, in my country and my family I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anyone out there, but that's how I was raised and that's how I think it should be between a man and a woman.

Carrie Prejean doesn't believe in gay marriage. We don't believe she offered any reasonable explanation for this view.

Hilton, as you might expect, was aghast at the response.

So was Keith Lewis, the Executive Director of Miss California USA/Teen USA. He wrote the following to Hilton's website:

"As co-executive director of Miss CA USA and one of the leaders of the Miss CA family, I am personally saddened and hurt that Miss CA USA 2009 believes marriage rights belong only to a man and a woman. Although I believe all religions should be able to ordain what unions they see fit, I do not believe our government should be able to discriminate against anyone. Religious beliefs have no place in politics in the Miss CA family."

Lewis neededn't have added the final few words. Religious beliefs have no place in politics. Period.

"It did cost me my crown," Prejean said on Monday's Billy Bush Show. "I wouldn't have had it any other way. I said what I feel. I stated an opinion that was true to myself and that's all I can do."

She added:

"It is a very touchy subject and [Hilton] is a homosexual and I see where he was coming from and I see the audience would've wanted me to be more politically correct. But I was raised in a way that you can never compromise your beliefs and your opinions for anything."

Well said. However, Carrie, it would help to explain WHY you possess such beliefs, wouldn't it?

Carrie has my respect and admiration, not to mention the fact that she is a courageous, beautiful woman...This Gay Perez person reeks of jealousy, disrespect, a total lack of manners and a complete intolerance of anyone who has a different view than his...Just how did this idiot manage to be chosen as a questioner? Oh yea, Hollywood...

Miss California was stating what humanity has known for centuries: marriage is between a man and a woman by natural law, biblical law, logical law, biological law and even communal laws! How ignorant can the 'political correct be' not to distinguish the self serving attitude the gay movement is pushing that every one should accept their anomaly in the name of 'freedom'. Freedom is not the right to choose what is wrong but the right to chose what is right!... and that freedom we in America are losing to these hate groups of the so called 'loving gays', pro-abortion intellectuals and the like whom find justification for their agenda in a self centered attitude that is many times pathological to say the least and narcissistic in nature.

that Hilton person is a well known "hater" and now we know he hates pageants and woman who stand up to him !
poor guy ! carrie prejean rocks !!! h.

Many people know the debate on "civil union" and "marriage". Not everyone. Her response did not indicate she knew much about the topic. A winning answer is not necessarily politically correct... but it is educated and well-spoken. She did a bad job. Not to mention that America stands for freedom and not even Christians get to push anyone around. Yes, I am a Christian.

Gay marriages are just all about money and property. You don't need to be married for the rest. There are no right answers in a beauty pageant. It's just opinionated answers and answers that are not even related to the questions.

She was asked for her views and gave them. Ironic that she's being criticized for having a view that a majority of California voters had in passing prop 8, that marriage should be between a man and a woman. For Mr. Lewis - homosexual judges with an gay agenda have no place in the Miss USA pageant. For Hilton Hater - No reasonable explanation? She was asked her views, not asked to write a thesis. She did say it was the way she was raised; guess that's unsatisfactory. Seems that no explanation would be satisfactory for you.

I saw this on Fox News last night. I just want to state that you should never try to force a man or woman to accept your lifestyle. They aske her a question and answered how she wanted to answer it. She coming South Carolina would expect her from to have a beliefs such as this. I am a Jamaican living in Jamaica. Anybobody know about Jamaica will know which side of the fence Jamaicans support but yet still there are some that live here that are on the other side but yet they can't behave like that in public or force their lifestyle on anyone here due to the fact, kids cant grow up seeing

In the future I would like to challenge pageant directors, and others involved, to consider the qualifications, motives and personal agendas of judges before putting them in a position that could lead them to the demise of a clear crown winner. Together, lets applaud a more dignified and wholesome run event which reflects the true beauty of our great nation.

Mr. Lewis and Perez must drink from the same fountain. She was honest, direct, thoughtful and didn't want to offend anyone. Mr. Lewis should be replaced as an executive director of the USA pagent and Perez never invited to be a judge again.

Carrie Prejean has nothing to be ashamed of. It is Perez Hilton who should be ashamed of himself with his ranting and raving about how she should have answered and who and what Miss USA is to all of us and then he called her a stupid bitch. Who wants to dialogue with that kind of mentality? No matter which side you fall on, each of us has an opinion and a right to express it if we wish. If you want to be respected, then act respectful ~ Perez, this means you. No one will ever take you seriously. You looked like a lunatic on The Today Show this morning and Carrie was poised and dignified. Carrie, you are my Miss USA. (I borrowed this from my husband, but it is true) You are a very courageous young lady. Cindy
