Bristol Palin is opening up about (or at least confirming) her split from fiance and baby daddy Levi Johnston, but disputes some accounts of their breakup.
"It is true that Levi and I are no longer together," Bristol told Us Weekly in a statement through the Palin family spokesperson, Meghan Stapleton.
"However, I am absolutely committed to being the best mom to Tripp Easton."
Levi Johnston, 19, said Wednesday that he and Bristol, 18, called off their engagement as soon as Sarah Palin's Vice Presidential bid ended "a while ago."
They welcomed son Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston on December 27.
BABY DADDY: Levi Johnston was a surprise hit at the Republican National Convention in August, but sadly, he and Bristol Palin have split up. No one saw it coming.
Bristol Palin also noted that this week's Star Magazine article about the couple's split - which quotes Levi's sister Mercede Johnston, and insinuates that Bristol considers Levi white trash - makes many false claims and is a shameless excuse for news:
"As for the tabloid article, there are many inaccuracies within it. Unfortunately, my family has seen many things in these tabloids as many try to 'cash in' on the Palin name. Sometimes that greed clouds good judgment and the truth."
She's probably right, but that's true of tabloids and every quasi-famous name, and a lot of people would probably be psyched if the Palins were never heard from again.
In any case, here's wishing Bristol Palin a healthy second pregnancy when Levi knocks her up again in a year. Sure, he's W.T., but his rugged good looks are irresistable.
