More than 31 million votes were counted after Tuesday's country night and the results were announced on American Idol Wednesday. They were surprising.
Alexis Grace, considered by many to be an early favorite, instead landed at the bottom of the heap after her lackluster rendition of Dolly Parton's "Jolene."
Because of the newly instituted Judges' Save rule - and because the judges have always liked her so much - Alexis Grace was permitted to sing an encore.
But she didn't knock that out of the park either. Randy, Simon, Paula and Kara huddled together to discuss her fate, and decided it wasn't good enough.
Instead it was time for a farewell performance before packing her bags.
The other singer with Alexis in the bottom two, as predicted, was Michael Sarver, while 16-year-old Allison Iraheta, in a bit of a surprise, was third-to-last.
Those two and the other remaining eight constants have now achieved a significant goal, as they will comprise the Idols Live touring roster this summer.

I really like Alexis Grace...she is really great. I think they made a wrong decision in not giving her a second chance because i think that she can do better next time, they know her ability and she really has the talent...OMG...i want her back in the show...

I love Alexis too... she was so cool and great and ... She was just unlucky. she was not meant for country. I'll miss her sooo much.
The judges only have one save. Maybe they dont want to use it yet.
Without Alexis, I think Danny stands a fair chance. He'll be the next American Idol.

I am so bored this the show this year. Nothing they could do or say would make me want to tune in. The singers aren't fantastic at all - they are good not great and an American Idol should be great. Granted a few that won over the years weren't great either and that's why they didn't become famous but it's a tired show - and I'm just plain tired of it all.

what i don't get is why they basically said michael deserved to go, that they wouldnt have even asked him to sing again if he were in last, but then didnt bring alexis back. wtf!

Alexis is talented...really they all are. The show is suppose to showcase the cream of the crop. The judges only have one save. I think they need to save the one that was voted out but could really have won. Like Daughtry...he could have won. Could Alexis have won? I am of the opinion not. Does it mean here future is shot? No way...Look at Bucky, Phil, Elliot...all have record deals.

I think the judges who did not support the obviously exciting and accomplished Alexis Grace need to reevaluate their judgement. They may be experts in their specific areas of music, but I think they were short sighted and have deprived the American public of an exciting singer who has a beautiful, expressive voice and is one of the most exciting singers I have seen in the eight years I have been watching American Idol. What were thinking? Obviously not about talent or potential. How could they eliminate Alexis based on one song that did not turn out as they expected. If you compare her to every other singer left in the top ten, she is a talent who surpasses all of them. To see someone like Anoop and other mediocre singers garner more votes simply reinforces my opinion that the American public votes not on talent, but on prejudice. There is no other female singer who can match Alexis, and the male singers are uninspired. I expect the judges will discover they have dropped the ball again in their judgement - re: Jennifer Hudson and Daughtry. I expect Alexis will become as accomlished as Carrie Underwood. Once again, Simon et al have blown it.
