A Passionate Defense of Molly Malaney

by at . Comments

We call them strong
Those who can face this world alone
Who seem to get by on their own
Those who will never take the fall.

We call them weak
Who are unable to resist
The slightest chance love might exist
And for that forsake it all.

Lindzi Cox on Bachelor Season Finale

Was The Bachelor finale staged?

Did Jason Mesnick always plan on choosing Molly Malaney as his wife, only to be told by ABC producers that maximum drama would be achieved if he first handed Melissa Rycroft the final rose, only to dump her on national TV for Molly?

We don't know. We'll likely never know.

But we do know this: Molly Malaney is a brave soul, one that followed her heart and is now waking up every morning next to the man she loves. How many people out there would give anything to say the same thing about themselves?

Our site has received record traffic and a record-number of comments following this week's roller coaster week of reality TV.

We appreciate it. We sincerely thank everyone that has taken the time to read the latest news on The Bachelor and share his/her opinion on such a stunning turn of events. Keep the responses coming!

Sometimes, though, members of our staff also feel the need to speak out. This is one of those times.

Go ahead and make fun of Molly's dress if you want, scoff at her behavior on the show if you wish... but many readers have referred to her as "weak" for not turning Jason down on the spot Monday night.

To paraphrase the popular country singer mentioned above: weak?!?

Is there no better example of strength than putting yourself out there, opening up, allowing your world to be shattered (in Molly's case, for the second time by the same man!) completely because something inside believes you've found your one true love?

It's easy to sit on our sofas and judge - but how many of us are doing so alone, regretting a missed opportunity where maybe, just maybe, our lives would have taken a happier, more complete turn if we'd chosen the difficult, less popular path?

That's what Molly did. Will it work out? That's not the point.

Years from now - whether she and Jason are attending Ty's college graduation together or broke up a long time ago - Molly should look back on this life-altering decision with pride. She stood firm. She followed her heart, even when every voice in her head may have been telling her not to.

We've never met Molly Malaney (and we wouldn't have worn that dress on the finale), but we admire her for taking a chance on something far more important than ratings or popularity: love.

She is sooo fake!! I am glad her and Jason are together because they deserve eachother and it will never last anyways who are we kidding!! No wonder that guy has been divorced already! Melissa should consider herself lucky that she isn't with him anymore.

come on people...the breakup showe aired after 6 months of spending time together in the real world....isn't it better to stop before getting married and having children....and better dealing with your feelings early on....and that goes for all three of them.....if you've never experienced doubt before, you probaby never have had a relationship.....isn't there something about 'casting the first stone'.....

I guess they are made for each other, other than no comments.

I agree IN PART. She does seem to have a certain strength and energy that is appealing. At the same time, there was no need for she and Jason to behave the way they did. They may have felt excited at the prospect of having a second chance, but they could have held back until the cameras were off in the name of common decency. The entire "Bachelor" process was unnatural enough and incredibly tough on those being "chosen", who have no power in the situation. Jason handled it in the most cruel and crass manner possible and Molly went right along with it, without a care in the world for Melissa's feelings. It makes it difficult to focus on admiring her strong personality right now. I like Molly dress (lol)!

I will not watch anymore of those shows with Bachelor or Bachelorette. I find it horrible to be so uncaring about other people, Jason and the TV station. How humiliating that must have been for Melissa. Jason is at the bottom of my list for nice men, what a jerk. I hope he gets dumped.

Avatar

Hey maybe- not a fact..but Molly got pregnant in the tent and things changed when she found out

Avatar

disgusting!!!do young women not have self respect anymore? It is okay to be dumped then the minute the guy asks for another chance, you agree? that is not a great way to start a relationship.

She is just as awful as Jason; so thus they are a perfect match. I guess giving it up in the tent on the first night they met must have made an impact... WHAT A SLUT. Wait till she moves to Seattle, I am sure that her opinion will change and won't las long up here in the NorthWest.

Um, Sarah, you must be the one who is starting all these rumors of an affair with a married man. Sorry to disappoint you or thwart your attempts to discredit a very nice young lady, but that is all it is - a rumor. We've seen the name of the "supposed" married man who "supposedly" was a golf pro, and I hate to be the one to break it to you, but there was never anyone by that name at the golf course. In fact, Molly has not lived in Grand Rapids for 7 years. Pretty hard to have an affair in Grand Rapids when you don't live there, huh? It is my feeling that anyone who spreads this kind of trash is someone with a personal agenda or some kind. I wish you blessings and peace in your life.

What's wrong with the dress?! I don't get it? I think it's beautiful!
