Well on the good side, Sarah Palin's husband wasn't caught in an airport mens room soliciting anonymous gay sex, or doing internet sex chat with a 17 year old boy. I guess you have to be a republican in congress to do that.

Typical bible thumpers(republicans) the girl makes 1 mistake (unprotected sex) gets pregnant and now to save face for the elite shes marrying the father. Wow, what a life lesson. How about stay in school raise the kid go to collage and if the fathers still actively involved marry him , latter in life when your grown up. We forgive you for your first mistake,.. not force you to make another.

Good little Christian girls get in trouble all the time, and by trouble, I mean pregnant. The little brother of my childhood best friend, knocked up his girlfriend. They were both church going, bible study going, youth group attending teens. Did I mention that his dad is a pastor? IMHO, I think kids with overly religious parents, often have sex to rebel. I think they are also afraid of get caught so they don't go on the pill or keep condoms. (Dumb, dumb, dumb.)
I know abstinence works, I haven't gotten pregnant not having sex, but so does hormonal birth control and condoms. I've been on birth control pills and/or other hormonal methods since I was 13, I'm 26 now. I'm not pregnant, nor have I ever been.
As for Bristol keeping the baby, I am so shocked. Good little Christian girls are supposed to give the kids away so that they can go back to being good little christian girls, and act like it never happened.

I am a democrat, but one thing for sure is that that I respect Sarah Palin. She is real and she lives the complications of having a family in America. From Working mom to balancing 5 kids and on top of balancing a government that huge state of Alaska. She is apart of our nations government but not disassociated from REAL LIFE and REAL PROBLEMS. She isn't one of those upper crust hobsnob politicians where they are totally disassociated from real issues facing american families. With the Bristol issue, she is handling it with dignity and the best way possible. I don't believe in her issues concerning pro life. But one thing for sure, she isn't a hypocrite. She lives what she preaches. Although I'm voting for Obama, I have the utmost respect for Sarah Palin and how she is handling this family issue with grace, dignity and with principle. It's not the child healthy labido that astounds me nor that she even became pregnant ... but it's the fact that she is the daughter of a bible thumping mother who spews the very values she can not even instill in her home and who, while preaching abstaining overloked explaining the minor details of birth control. This is beyond idiocy.

As Mark Steyn points out in his recent best seller, America Alone, if our western civilization is demographically to survive in the increasingly “hostile to the west” islamic world — and not end up like the sinking European populations — these are the precise people (the Bristol Palins’) we should thank for increasing their progeny.

In answer to your question: No, this will not hurt Palin with conservative voters; they only care when liberals or moderates appear immoral. When conservatives show any sign of vice or moral 'flexibility,' it's explained away and forgotten.

Bristol has nothing to be ashamed about. But her mother has plenty. How selfish she is to put her need to advance in politics above her child. Before only Alaska which nobody pays much attention to would have known. Now it has to be shared with the whole world!

When I look back on my own experiences as a teen, I accept full responsability for my actions and lived with the consequinces. However, I can't help but wonder how different things may have turned out if I had had parents that were more involved in my life rather than their own ambition.

I would ask, as a supportive mother...Who is going to help her daughter when that baby comes? This girl needs her mom now more than ever! I agree with the OP that perhaps she should have waited until 2012? Also, I thought her daughter was sick with mono that is why she wasn't in school for 5 months? Turns out, she wasn't that sick:( Did she drop out of school? this is truly a sad story, but I don't think it will garner votes for McCain, I think it will actually take votes away:( I respect Ms. Palin for supporting her daughter but I think that the last thing this country needs is a poster kid for having a baby at 17...
I also read on another blog that her husband has been arrested for a DUI?

Why would Palin take the VP nomination when she knew that her pregnant daughter would be subjected to worldwide censure if she did? Why not cut the kid a break and wait until 2012 or 2016 to go national?
We all compromise our lives for our kids - turn down the promotion that requires a move, cut back on optional overtime, even stay married when it's not so easy. Palin chose to put her ambition ahead of letting her kid get through this in a better way, and I question what that says about her.

Why is it okay to trash the children of politicians? Are these kids someone seeking or courting the media? Is she the only pregnant teen on the planet? Then lay the hell off the spawn of politicians - unless you're going to dig through every Democrat to go along with every Republican.
