David Cook Wins American Idol, Has Time of His Life

Every year, the American Idol winner is forced to sing a cheesy ballad in celebration of his/her victory.

This season was no different, as David Cook took home the title and then serenaded his fans with "Time of My Life."

Here's a video of Cook winning and then celebrating with his fellow American Idol finalists:

I thought neither one of the songs the 2 Davids chose from the amateur songwriting contest were very good. Archuleta's was a little bit better, as the judges also thought so. Paula mentioned that another song had actually won the contest (is this correct?), so I'm kinda confused about that. (Anyway the songs that win these contests are never exactly "Bridge Over Troubled Water" or "Hey Jude.")
Alright, no offense to the person who wrote the Cook song,...(if you're reading this tell yourself that i'm a bitter failure and just jealous, and brush me off like dandruff on your shirt sleeve) BUT, I just dont care for this song. "Looking for that magic rainbow on the horizon" makes MacArthur Park look like a work of poetry,...the lyrics are pretty horrible, and the melody or music isn't especially breath taking either. It's a shame the 2 Davids were forced to sing such crappy songs with so much riding on this. Having said that, very few people are writing good songs anymore, it's hard to understand what the problem is...perhaps we are a "generation lost in space" as Don McClean once said. Anyway, there are also some good articles at http://jviz.blogspot.com that can perhaps help sort through this American Idol insanity
