Another American Idol Shocker: Carly Smithson Eliminated!
Tonight's American Idol results may not have been as shocking as the night Michael Johns was shown the door. But there's no way we imagined anyone not named Brooke White would be going home.
Instead - because viewers obviously felt sorry for White after she forgot the lyrics to "You Must Love Me" on Tuesday night - Carly Smithson was voted out.
We've been Brooke backers all season long, but she deserved to be sent home this week. Smithson put on an inspired, lively rendition of "Jesus Christ Superstar" and, let's face it, Brooke choked under the pressure. It was time for her to go.

I think it was right that she got eliminated simply because she's had a record deal and won awards in Ireland for best female artist. I feel like she's already lived the dream and other's need to live out what they haven't yet experienced like she has.
Who cares what we say though, you know she'll get a record out!

Absolutely not. She's a wonderful singer, but sadly didn't have enough of a fan base. Hopefully she will do wel in the future. I was sure she would have made the top 3.

i totally agree carly did not deserve to go home,
imo brooke and jason should have been in the
bottom 2. i thougjht that brooke might make it
through, because most people have been in
her position and the nerves get the best of ya. but jason was horrible. i did not even recognize
the song, he is one of weakest vocally singer
ever that been on idol. i did not even recognize
the song. carly and michael johns were robbed.

Carly was the best singer in the competition! But I CAN believe it that she'd be eliminated. It happens every year that the best gets voted off! Maybe people thought she was too powerful and made the others look like such amateurs so they stop voting for her...this is just like Jennifer Hudson..Melinda Doolittle...Chris Daughtry...the best singers all get voted off! CARLY YOU ARE THE BEST!!! YOU HAVE THE BEST FANS WHO LOVE YOU UNCONDITIONALLY! dONT GIVE UP YOUR DREAM..WE BELIEVE IN YOU!

I do not care to watch Idol anymore...Come on now, Carly got voted off? Is American crazy? She was the best vocalist in the competition! Why does it always have to be a popularity contest?! I believe people need to crack down on this show because the truly talented people are not the ones winning!

No way should either of these 2 women have been listed as the bottom 2. They gave the strongest performances of the night. The 2 weakest are Brook and the dreadlocks guy. He should have been ousted weeks ago. His was the weakest performance the night before.

Carly has had some tough critiques and survived to sing another song. Tonight's elimination was not only unexpected but completely undeserved. I like Brooke but think that either she or Jason should have been voted off!

Carly should have stayed! She gave a great performance and is a super singer. If there was anyone who needed to leave, it was Jason. His performance was terrible and he was off key quite a bit. I honestly don't know why he is still in the top 5. He is not that good of a singer and that hair has got to go!

I agree that Carly had a better performance. Heck, she's the best singer, technically, but, I don't agree that she was the most charismatic star of the season. I think there's something very annoying about her hyper mannerisms, and while she was blessed with a gorgeous instrument, her own zeal and personality undermines her performances. While she sung well last night, she still missed the mark for me because I'm tired of her sass and ego. She acts like she's the greatest star, and truthfully, star quality is a recipe of ingredients. On every cruise ship and local bars throughout the world one can find exceptionally talented singers, but, stars are something which combine talent, and other factors. It was time for Carly to go away.

Oh my god. When I read this news. Suddenly, I was crying because her performance last night was absolutely great. She's my favourite. Because come on, this is a SINGING COMPETITION. ( Most of the people don't think so). But I'm sure Simon was surprised too. After all she was one of his favourites.

Of Course, Americans would be very disappointed to see a foreigner who sings better than any other of their beloved American contestants. She's by far the best singer that ever aplied for American Idol.

Unbelievable! Obviously the result of an audience made up of passive listeners and not active listeners. As a experienced and retired bass player for a symphony orchestra, jazz and rock bands I recognize talent. This girl lit up the stage every week. She sang with incredible enthusiam, emotion, and had a great attitude. Carly should have been in at least the top four. Two of the remaining contestants should have already gone home and they know it as well! Carly is one step away from becoming a superstar!

no she did not deserve to be eliminated and i dont understand how people could vote for jason freak or brooke the baby? they both did awful and they BOTH desere to go home!!!!!! i voted 4 carly at least 40 times but oviously other people did not!!! thank u all that aare her fans and thanks to everyone who did vote for carly and not for jason or brooke. carly will be a superstar and i know it!!!!!!!!!

Carly was ripped off. The voting system does not reflect the opinion of the majority of viewers/voters. People have figured out how to rig the voting for their "popular favorite". No way should Carly leave while Jason and Brooke still remain. And Syesha should never have been in the bottom two this week. She showed tremendous talent & versatility on Tuesday night. Go Syesha!

ABSOLUTELY NOT! Why Brook White didn't go home, I'm clueless.. and let's face it, so was she. White looked absolutely suprised when they called her safe. And even when she wasn't knocked off, between Jason and Carly, Jason should definitely have been in the bottom two! (Don't get me wrong, he's been a fav of mine from the get go) but last Tuesday night just wasn't his thing. All I can say is it has definitely been a surprising American Idol Season. Good Luck Carly!

Carly's dismissal from Idol last evening was a joke. It's taken a while for her to grow on me, but she is actually quite good and deserved to be in the top 3-4 easily.
Jason and Brooke should have been in the bottom two. I like Brooke but she should have not been saved. Sad but true.
