Why is everyone surprised? His song choice this week simply did not appeal to the voting demographic, (think young teenagers voting multiple times). This shows that a bad song and a kooky neck scarf can lead to disaster. He is most certainly talented, but who was he performing for? I hope the Irish lizard lady goes next.

This was WRONG!
The show begging for money, making us sit through almost 3 hours of boaring Tues. night, then to slap us in the face on Wed.
Michael Johns is a brilliant tallent and this was outrageous!
Ryan should be ashamed of himself for doing that to him. What kind of person would do that, it was beyone cruel.
I think they should bring Michael back on the show and Ryan should say how sorry he is for being the biggest jerk around.

I'M SHOCKED!! I Cannot watch AI anymore, when the two most unoriginal contestants, Brook, and David C are still there, and MIchael is gone, Micheal if your reading this, nowis your time to make this happen, you will be the biggest star.

You can look at it two ways:
1st. Controversy causes buzz buzz causes more hype, in a sick and twisted way returns more viewers to see what other drama will come out of the controversy.
2nd. Daughty being eliminated brought HUGE buzz and hype for his first release album (Daughtry). We all know Michael Johns is damn good, I wouldn't be shocked if this was a ploy to build up the hype like they did Chris.
In the end Idol is only selling themselves short and with these cheesy tactics will make the show less appealing each year.

I was a huge fan of American Idol.. following it for years. The show is not a talent contest but a POPULARITY CONTEST. I will now only watch the auditions segments of the show and not the top 12. It is a waste of time since AMERICA can't get it right. I think its time to let America choose the bottom three and let the judges have the final vote. Kristy, Jason, or Brooke deserved to go home last night. Michael Johns is a very talented guy and of course he'll get signed. But the point if if America can't choose the best.. how the hell are they gonna choose a president?!?!?!

I know there's a lot of wailing over American Idol's latest elimination, but honestly? I'm not too surprised. Michael John's performance was, to me, forgettable. I don't even remember what he sang. Michael John is a good guy and a solid singer, but he doesn't have that star quality that makes him stand out from the crowd. I was never a big fan - actually I usually forgot he was in the competition. I find singers such as Carly and Sayesha more entertaining simply because they seem to have a personality. Hey, they make mistakes, but at least there's a bit of a theme behind their song choices, not just some random "pick here pick there".
I know many of you will disagree with me, but please remember it's only an opinion. I noticed the last comment mentions that AI has turned into a popularity contest, which is partly true, but can also be explained. Carrie Underwood is an amazing singer, which is, of course, why she one. But if she had talked back to the judges, or demonstrated an attitude, I doubt she would have the title she has today.
Basically, no matter what the judges say, it's more than just singing. It's about having a personality and the ability to choose the right songs. It's about being memorable, which is harsh, but true.
So I say, American Idol should keep on doing what it's doing. Hopefully, America will get it right.

I think Michael Johns was the best - I can't stand David Cook, I don't know what anyone sees in him - It is definitly rigged.
The only thing Simon could say was" it was a bad song choice" - No Way!!! That is all he could say - He had to say something- They told him to say that.

Just last week I commented to my wife that I thought it was great that Ryan was not doing the b.s. toying with the emotions of contestants as he'd done in years past, and then what he did to Michael Johns??? Absolutely classless and unnecessary. To tease that last year no one was sent home during "Idol gives back" week, but this year....."we say goodbye to Michael Johns." Doubly insulting since Michael was easily the most talented, soulful, and interesting person on the show this year. I guess the upside is that he won't be tied to the ridiculous contract they make the 'winner' sign, and can sign on with someone who appreciates his real talents.

I have no motivation to watch AI anymore--no one moves me from the contestants who are left behind (ok maybe Jason would do) and in terms of singing--Michael Johns delivered everytime--I wish the rest of the contestants good luck but some of them don't deserve to be there and Michael Johns had the talent to be at the worst 3rd place so what ever happened was just ridiculous....
