American Idol: A More Complete Recap

In case our previous American Idol recap - which just summed up the awesomeness that is David Cook - was not detailed enough for those that missed the show, here's a more complete summary:

David Archuleta started the night of Mariah Carey songs off well. He sang "When You Believe," looked chock full of pained emotion as usual and was universally hailed by the judges.

Up next, Carly Smithson went with the ballad "Without You," but the panel seemed to agree it could have been better. The overall message from Randy, Simon and Paula to Carly: believe in yourself.

Idols and Mariah

We'd never heard of the song "Vanishing," which was chosen by Syesha Mercado. According to Paula, that unknown factor was a good thing. Simon disagreed, shockingly. A decent job, but Syesha is starting to sound shrill to us in her vocals.

Lacking Mariah-like vocal range, Brooke White tried "Hero" on the piano. Randy described the performance well as a "singer/songwriter" thing, if that makes sense. We didn't dig it. Brooke's voice simply wasn't strong enough, and we beginning to tire of her constant, open agreement with the judges.

Kristy Lee Cook gave "Forever" a chance. It was a typical Kristy Lee Cook performance. Not a bomb. Not memorable. She needs to go.

David Cook was awesome. In case you haven't heard.

To close the night, Jason Castro sang "I Don't Want to Cry." And while Randy wasn't thrilled, we sided with Paula and Simon. An enjoyable number.

Who was your favorite, and least favorite, on the night?

As usual the judges fawned all over David A who I think is a nice kid but highly overrated. I really didn't think David C's performance was exceptional either. It was very good but I thought the judges went way overboard with their accolades. It's obvious they've tagged him as this season's winner and they've really been pushing him onto the viewers. Jason's performance just plain bugged me. Every song he sings sounds just like the one before. Syesha was way shrill last night and I almost muted the TV. Brooke's performance was simply dreadful. I'm sorry but really, what was she thinking? She should have gone home a few weeks ago. Kristy has stepped up her game the past few weeks and is growing on me. Last night she gave a good performance. Carly looked amazing last night and is obviously reading the AI Boards that have been saying she should cover up her tattoos because they're too distracting. I don't mind them but apparently others do. She is the best female vocalist and even though she's not the most popular contestant she deserves to stay in the competition longer.

Jason Castro is my favorite. I believe he'd be a good addition to the winners' circle- adding something totally unique. of course being a realist, we will most likely see it go down to the 2 Davids. That being the case, I must root for Mr. Cook.

David C is my favorite - and he was so amazing last Tuesday night when he sang 'Always Be My Baby'. Totally original and heartfelt. He's the bomb!! :D And when I let my friend hear him out with the studio version of the song, she asked me "if he's on Idol, who sang that song? coz for me, that totally sounds like it's from his album or something" LOL! XD

Honestly.. Before, I used to think that David A was the one who's more deserving. But as I watched the show, I realized that he's always the same every week. You know, if he sings slow and emotional songs it would be great for him.. but if he sings something fast and upbeat it would be a 50/50 of a total of messing up and succeeding.. AND THEN LATER I saw the real deal -- David C. On my opinion, he is much more deserving than anyone else in AI. Totally original.

I wish them both to break their legs. LOL! expression only... :)

Jason Castro beat them all -- simple, souful, understanded, smooth...and totally believeable.

What happened to my L in soulful? It has been replaced by an e in believable. LOL

Jason Jason Jason . He is an artist, a musician , he sings naturally and effortlessly. He is humble, plus it doesnt hurt that he is so goofy and charming. But I don't necessarily want him to be the next AI, just maybe in the top 3 so I can continue to have a reason to watch AI.
