If they started having sex before she turned 16, yes, it could bring a statutory charge. But I doubt that anyone will bring charges because the age difference is within 3 years. Most times you have to be over 16 to consent to sex with someone over 21. If you are younger than 16 you cannot consent to sex with someone over 21.
Still, you'd think with her money and access to healthcare that she would have thought about birth control. Or he would have.
But, I suppose that this is really where Bush's "absintence only" sex-ed program gets us -kids who don't get all the information regarding protection wind up pregnant before they are ready.

Hey! I am happy for the couple. But to all you stupid people out there she is sixten. SIXTEEN IS AGE OF CONSENT!!!!! which means he can not be charged a sexual preditror and i doubt he raped her. If the parents wish to press charges he will not be listed as a preditor and doubt it will go through but they could list it as UNLAWFUL VOULUNTARY SEXUAL RELATIONS. I know this because I have a friend that is the same boat as Casey Aldridge and Jamie Lynn Spears. I may be only 18 years old but i know my stuff when it comes to it. My really good friend is a cop and he teaches me all the laws that i need to know or what i want to know. HE even says that Casey and Jamie are lucky to have each other and that Casey is NOT a sexual preditor. Luv ya!!

This year the USA has seen a rise in teenage pregnancies. Bush's "abstinence-only" is leading the country's next generation into young parenthood- how can anyone learn about sex if it's not taught. Mr. Stork retired long ago! As for Jamie, mistakes are made- she even said that she got herself into this position- I hope they work things out and raise this child well. I also hope Jamie, being such a role model to young kids, speaks out for PRO-SEX-EDUCATION. She has the power to influence kids what NOT to do.
As for Mrs.Lynne Spears- the last thing she should write is a parenting guide. She should have, at the very least, informed and given both Britney and Jamie of birth control!

that whole family is starting to make me sick. Who honestly lets a 16 year old have a child, and she's already 3 months into it! I don't care how much money she has, that's unacceptable. She's only 3 years older than my sister. Personally I think they should send that guy to jail or something to prove the point that this type of thing is against the law.

It doesn't seem to me that anyone is having any trouble learning about sex, just because its not taught in schools. Hence, the trouble of Jamie Lynn.
I don't need a school to teach my kids about things that I should be teaching them, its called parenting! Furthermore, what needs to be taught is morality, sin and accountability. No one fears God anymore. Everyone is live and let live, and this is the result.

She's too young to be pregnant. I have a 14-year-old daughter, and trust me, I would not want her to be pregnant at 16 years of age. Money or no money, there is still a lot of life to live and learn at 16. Her life will not be her own after the delivery of her baby because that baby will HAVE to take precedence over any and all things that she has going on her life. The baby HAS to be first. So, that means she MUST learn to be a responsible, nurturing, caring, loving, and protective parent. She went from a child to a woman in ONE

CONTINUED: sex act. Her life will never be the same, and let us all hope and pray with all our hearts that Jamie Lynn will be a much, much better mother than Britney. Britney is a HORRIBLE mother, and she is definitely not a ROLE MODEL for my daughter. If there is to be role model for young girls, then we need to look to someone like BEYONCE KNOWLES, and not these irresponsible girls like Jamie Lynn and Britney, who have no self control let alone common sense about life or anything else. Let's pray that Mylie Cyrus won't allow herself to get into that predicament. One final word: Girls enjoy your youth; you have the rest of your lives to be adults. Your youth is only for a short while, up to the age of 18; after that, you are an adult forever. Let's learn from Jamie Lynn's MISTAKE and think before acting. Katrina you are wrong, you need to open up the law books. Your comments shows that you know nothing about the law. The AGE OF CONSENT is 16 in a few states but not in California where the age is 18. It doesn't matter what the scenario is if you over 18 and have sex with ayone under 18 that is Statutory rape. It doesn't matter if they are head over heals in love. Most teenagers don't know what love is that is why it doesn't make a difference. Nothing will happen to them though. I am sure though that you people have heard of CELEBRITY LAW. This is where you can commit a crime and use your monies to get you off. Celebrities have there own laws that they can break and get away with. No charges will be brought up because Jamie is part of the Celebrity Law. It just goes to show that the Spears sisters are nothing but skanks that people all adore. Britney is a skank just like Jamie is. Otherwise she would wait until she was old enough to have sex. As long as you people keep putting skanks like this on a pedistal then they will continue to be popular. I think that people should put the skank SPears sisters in the past and move on. Don't give into their trash by keeping them in the spotlight.

Much too young to be pregnant. Mama Spears writing a parenting book: I think not. In order to write a parenting book, you should have done an outstanding job raising your own children. NOT. I am a single mother, not much money, and I have 2 daughters. One the age of Britney and the other the age of Jamie Lynn. Even though we don't have nearly as much money as these 2 sisters I have prided myself on being an exceptional parent. My oldest was Valedictorian at her high school and excelled musically as well as academically, while my youngest is excelling in academics in advanced college level classes, sports, musically, and artistically. That tells me that MONEY has its place but it's not the answer or the guarantee to raising happy, balanced, well-adjusted, and successful children. We have to do our very best, be there no matter what, and PRAY, PRAY, PRAY, that everything works out. My prayers are with their mother, being a mother myself. I thank God for my daughters and the fact that they are EXTRAORDINARY girls without the money, fame, and limelight. Obviously, it takes more than that.

The only thing is that this ISN'T against the law. They are both old enough to consent to sex. And there IS a problem with this. She's SIXTEEN. Yes, young girls have kids on a daily basis, and yes Jamie is stepping up and taking responsibility for her mistakes, But there is no reason that babies having babies should become common place.
I don't believe this has anything to do with Bush's abstinance-only policies, if Lynne had a problem with what her kids were being taught, its her responsibility to tell her differently, and i guarentee with the level that her daughter is in w/ school, she's probably got a tutor and is being home schooled... kids are going to do what they want to do no matter what. You think a 16 year old isn't aware of condoms and birth control? You're highly dillusional if you believe that. The schools shouldn't be teaching opinions on sex (abstinance vs safe sex...) at all it should be the parents responsibility.
Parents have turned to relying more on the schools and government to raise their kids, then are upset when things go wrong or their kids get involved with drugs or the wrong crowd. Yeah, there are times when bad things happen to good people, and yeah, kids have their own minds and are rebellious, but things have changed a ton from when my parents were kids, and they've changed even more from when i was a kid. (which wasn't that long ago)
My parents stayed on my a$$ i got good grades, i've never done drugs, never been arrested... never done anything to hurt anyone else. I'm only 22, so its not like the "up the hill 5 miles in the snow" stories. You can't say that Lynne deserves a mother of the year award, she seems like she's the type of mother thats better as a friend than a mother. Some things definately didn't go the way they should have with those kids.

As far as those folks such as 'michelleeee'(learn to spell young) stating that they had kids at 16 and everything is hunky dory, you aren't on TV and have milliions of little girls looking up to you, either! THAT is a HUGE difference. This is one of the worst things that could happen for young girls, to have a child star of a program becoming pregnant. It's almost insane. Nick is going to get a huge backlash and will be pulling the program. Her career is over, at least for several years.

Wow! All of you are clearly stupid. Just cause she is in the public eye, you want to juqde her, but she shouldnt qet any special treatment because she's just like any other 16 year old in this world. She is old enouqh to know the consequences of havinq sex, so therefore she should of been smarter. But millions of teens make the same mistakes everyday. She may be a roll model and she may be on a teen tv show, but so what. Just cause she's a celeb doesnt mean anythinq. If it was just some random teen, you are probably wouldnt care.

I don't get this whole "send him to jail" mentality. They are both young and dumb. Yeah, he's legally an adult, but a 19 year old male isn't any more mature than a 16 year old female.
