Melinda Doolittle

American Idol Finale Set; Won't Include Melinda Doolittle

We've got two words for you, Melinda Doolittle:

Chris Daughtry.

The American Idol Favorite After last night's shocking ousting, the American Idol vocalist can find solace in the success of last year's surprising, early exit by Daughtry. The man has certainly found success since then.

In reality, though, were you that surprised when Ryan Seacrest sent Doolittle home to end the show? While one of the best singers this reality show has ever seen, it's evident by now that voters are looking for a lot more than mere range and talent.

They want Blake Lewis, his charm, style and beat boxing skills.

They want Jordin Sparks, her looks, charisma and and youthful innocence.

And they want to drive those that believe this is purely a singing competition, such as Simon Cowell, insane.

Fortunately, all types of American Idol viewers can be happy if Jordin wins. She has the look, personality and talent of a deserving winner. Vote for Sparks, folks, and we could easily have another Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood on our hands.

I really believed that Blake would be gone, up to the time I saw the video welcome he received in his hometown of Bothell, Washington. When I saw the absolute sea of pre-pubescent and young teenage girls shrieking, holding signs, crying, etc. I turned to my wife and declared "Blake will be in the finals." These are the kids who vote over and over and over for their favorites. Melinda at 29 had no such fan base willing to "constant call" to ensure she made the finals.

Our other theory, and I stress this is just a personal opinion and theory, is that Nigel Lythgoe who produces Idol and other successful reality fare, and Clive Davis, most powerful man in the music business regularly work closely together. Davis has signed virtually every Idol winner and number two and guided their careers. Davis may have told Lythgoe that he can do more with a 17 and 25-year old very hip, contemporary pair than a shy 29 year old with a great voice but less charisma and personality. After all, let's be honest, it is ALL about making money, and lots of it. So....SURPRISE! Melinda is shockingly ousted and the 17 and 25-year old move on, and Lythgoe and Davis can't lose!

No way. After Melinda's out, I'm all-out voting for Blake. Jordin is just too generic and boring. She even sounded and acted like Kat McPhee.
