Lauren Conrad: Bad at Dating, But Happy With Life
After a summer split with Jason Wahler and a brief relationship with Brody Jenner, Lauren Conrad says she's unattached. And happy about that.
Conrad, 20, hosted a barbecue for Maci, a 13-year-old girl with autoimmune hepatitis who'd flown to California from Port Saint Lucie, Fl., via the Make-a-Wish Foundation to meet the star at her parents' Laguna Beach home.
In an interview with People, Lauren Conrad confided that she's bad at dating.
"You know, I haven't really liked anyone since Jason," she said. "I'm a bad dater. I'm the most socially awkward person, like carrying on conversations and stuff... I don't want to date anyone right now anyway, so it doesn't really matter."
She and Brody Jenner were never serious, she said.
"He's a cool guy. We hung out a couple of times. But I went into it telling him â" I was like, 'I don't want to date you,'" Conrad said. "Oh, he doesn't want a girlfriend either!"
More difficult, Conrad said, was her split with Wahler, which sources have attributed in part to Wahler's lack of brains asshole behavior heavy partying.
"Obviously, when you care about someone, you don't want to see them going down that (self-destructive) road. You want to care about them, you want to help them, but then you have to realize it's not your responsibility. So it's easier for me to step back and not know about and not hear about it."
Thankfully, it's not all about boyfriend drama for the star of The Hills. Besides the barbecue, Conrad took Maci for some impromptu boutique shopping in Laguna.
Maci said Laguna Beach was her favorite show.
"I liked Lauren the best, so I picked her," she said.
Maci said it was nerve-racking to meet the arch enemy of Kristin Cavallari, but that she was quickly made to feel at home by Lauren.
No word on whether Breanna Conrad was there.
"I asked her about her and Jason and she told me everything," Maci said. "I wasn't sure what she was going to be like, but she's real nice."
Conrad said she was just as thrilled about the visit.
"This is the most amazing thing to be able to do."

I was sufing the web and came across this...Lauren and her family were some of the nicest people I have ever met...they made my daughter and I feel very comfortable and Maci felt very special. Thank you....

You knoe ALEK, you are a very crude person. Why would you feel it necessary to speak in such threatening language about a person that has done nothing to you. She like everyone else in the world has a job. She is doing that job very well and with alot of class. Yet you pick her to be the target of your vulgarity. Thats just wrong. There are young children that look up to her and are reading this website. They dont need to see Laurens image tainted by your foul language and thoughts. Maybe you should keep those to your self or at the very least, adult rated websites. (not that you should be speaking about anyone like that on any website) At least innocent children wont have to read it.
I think its horrible that "celebs" in any form have to have their lives under a microscope. Lauren has made a career from almost nothing. She should get props for taking a small reality show role and used it to further her career. But just because she has chosen to share her real life experiences on tv, doesnt mean that beyond the screen she needs to share anymore of her life. Thats like saying "hey i saw a motivational speaker yesterday. He told us how his family experiences as a child made him the man he is today. So now Im going to go camp out in front of his house for a week and follow him everywher he goes, so I can learn more about his personal life and put it on every website and rag magazine in America."
I guess the moral of my ranting is "do unto others as you would want done unto you"
Lauren......On behalf of your fans i am sorry that you have to be subjected to people lke Alek. Im pretty sure that is not what you signed on for when you started this career. Good luck in all that your doing. your friends and family should be very proud!

I think you are so sweet and adorable. I just passed the California bar and am moving from San Diego (home town) to Los Angeles.
I dream of meeting you (off camera) and making you laugh. Hope you would give a young jewish lawyer a chance to make you smile.
