Looks like Britney Spears just got dumped.
By Madonna. The two became fast friends (and the obsession of adolescent males across the world) with their 2003 lip lock at the MTV Video Music Awards. It was a moment that a pair of recent Bess Kiss award winners would surely appreciate.
Shortly after the infamous on-stage encounter, Madonna spent a great deal of time and money wooing Spears into Kabbalah, the interpretive and mystical offshoot of Judaism that claims an insight into divine nature.
It worked for a while, as Spears was spotted toting Kabbalah books and sporting the trendy religion's trademark red string bracelet. In 2004, Spears had a Hebrew tattoo inked onto the nape of her neck (which many found ironic as Judaism traditionally forbids them). But, according to reports, Madonna recently "dumped" Spears after the youngan bailed on Kabbalah.
"I no longer study Kabbalah, my baby is my religion," wrote Spears on her official site.
The Louisiana native, who was raised Baptist, has allegedly been meeting with a "Christian Life Coach" about her rocky marriage to Kevin Federline.
Madonna's representatives and friends, along with the singer herself, are reportedly very disappointed in Spears.
"Madonna feels she has wasted time, money and precious gifts on Brit. She spent months teaching her the Kabbalah system and splashed out thousands on the ancient scripture for her," according to a source quoted by Virgin.net, which also states that Madonna has demanded the return of a 12th-century book on Kabbalah that she gave Spears for her wedding.
Madonna's rep had no comment.
