A Country Catfight Between Dixie Chicks, Reba McEntire
Insults flowing from someone with a lame sitcom on the WB? We're not sure how seriously the Dixie Chicks can take criticisms from Reba McEntire, but this country catfight appears to be gaining momentum.
The red-haired singer says she's "very disappointed" in the group for comments its made about the country music insutry, along with wel-publicized comments about President Bush.
Martie Maguire, one third of this controversial trio, told Time magazine the singers don't care very much. They prefer to attract fans who "will grow with us as we grow and are fans for life, than people that have us in their five-disc changer with Reba McEntire and Toby Keith ... We don't want those kinds of fans."
Snaps, yo. In response, Reba defended her field and those within it.
"I've never turned my back on country music," she told the CMT network. "So when somebody talks bad about my music, my family, that does not set well with me. And when you bite the hand that feeds you, I just don't think that's very nice."
Reba also said she was "very glad" the comments about her and Keith were made public because "I was ready to say that because I hope they realize that they're not doing themselves any favors."
Now, about that sitcom ...

IF MY MEMORY SERVES ME CORRECTLY, IT WAS REBA MCINTIRE MAKING RUDE COMMENTS ABOUT THE DIXIE CHICKS WHEN SHE HOSTED THE COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDS. I THINK OTHER COUNTRY MUSIC ARTISTS SHOULD KEEP THEIR COMMENTS TO THEMSELVES. THAT'S WHAT THEY THOUGHT THE CHICKS SHOULD HAVE DONE RIGHT??? Actually, if the Dixie Chicks had not started it with that shit in a magazine talking about not wanting to be associated with Reba's fans, I doubt a cosumate professional like Reba just snapped on them for no reason. As far as the "just on the WB" comment, ummmm Reba is a music legend..

Last I heard this was a country with Free Speech. I think both the Dixie Chicks and
Reba had a right to their opinion and so does everyong else. Let's not let any President, present or in our future, take that away from the United States of America citizens.

The Dixie Chicks are great and so is Reba. They used to admire each other; I hope they put the politics behind them and do an album together.
It must gall the phony Bushmen (a shrinking number, now THEY are the despised minority but we still have to defend their right to be stupid and mean)---The Dixie Chicks told the truth before it was fashionable---just like Muhammed Ali and Dr. King---winning all the Grammys is sweet and just vindication.

Before "superstar" Reba goes shootin' off her mouth about the Chicks, she needs to go back few years to her tits showing through her dress. Is it okay to expose yourself when it helps your own CD sales? Crush 'em, crack 'em and burn 'em - Reba's CDs are trash 'cause that country girl is just another right-wing, capitalistic, Bush-espousing devil in angels clothing.

I like some of dixie chicks songs and I love reba's songs but I dont think that I will be buying anymore of dixie chicks. They are nothing but trouble with a capital T and they need to think about where they came from and they will never be as big as Reba as.

i have been a fan of both the chicks and reba for years but i have to say i have had my fill of the chicks. they seem to look for trouble where ever they are and while they are preaching peace they are doing just the opposite by cause constant discord with everyone around them.

I am a fan of Reba, I was a fan of the Dixie Chicks. The Dixie Chicks should not have bad mouthed the president when they were in another country. Say what you want when you're in the U.S., you're entitled to your own opinion; but you support your country when you leave the states. And by the way, they were giving a concert - they didn't have to say anything at all, they should have just sang their song and played their music.

I think everyone is entitled to their own opinion except the Dixie Chicks went too far. They are performers and role models so that's what they should stick to. Reba has always avoided the bad press stories or tries to patch things up. Reba wasn't looking for attention and gossip like the Dixie Chicks were. The Chicks got the attention they wanted and Reba hasn't said anything else on the subject. In my opinion, Dixie Chicks were never country and never stuck to their roots, unlike Reba....who by the way is a living legend!

The fact that the Dixie Chicks practiced freedom of speech even when it wasnt easy makes them better role models! Young women need to see strong females who can speak their mind and stand up for what is ultimately right, even if their national political climate is stifiling. The chicks spoke out against a war that is based on falsehoods and were completely correct and patriotic to do so. Dissent is our most patriotic of American values and practicing our freedom of speech is not our right or privelege, but DUTY. Just because one does not support a poorly managed (by our commander and chief) and unjustified war does not mean one does not support the thousands of young men and women who continue to fight and die and a valiant dutiful fashion each day in Iraq. You may disagree with what the chicks said on a personal level, but lets all recognize that by dissenting they were being more patriotic than any of us can boast.
Also, Lexy's comment about how the chicks "were never country and never stuck to their roots" was LAUGHABLE! The chicks have always been too country for country radio! Their first two albums were more of a rootsy, bluegrass style than any of Reba's pop-country ramblings. I am not sure, Lexy, if you understand anything about musical genre, but the chicks have most certainly been, and continue to be a country band, more so than anything that plays at the CMT awards (with the exception of Kris Kristofferson). Also, the fact that the chicks showed their musical flexibility in branching out only slightly on this latest album doesnt mean they arent sticking to their roots, it just shows the artistry of their music, the fact that they want to and are able to explore new things and still remain true to themselves. Whether or not you are a fan its truly admirable.
Finally, in regard to Reba being a "living legend", that may be the case in the small world of CMT, but the dixie chicks are and will continue to be recognized on a broader scope. The kind of innovation that the dixie chicks have established will not be soon forgotten, whereas, Reba has done what is safe and accepted. Reba's art will fade but the chicks will last. Lets see who our grandkids are listening to.

Reba is a great legend that inspires us all. iif it wasn't for her we won't have so many great arist like today! reba 's show is a show about family friends and being a survior ! reba is one of us! I love Reba and I have never minded the Dixie Chick's music, I was actually beginning to like them more. After hearing all the trash they are saying about Reba I hate them and I have never truly hated anything in my life until now. If it wasnt for Reba they wouldnt be where they are today, how dare thay disrespect her. The Dixie Chicks you should call them the Bitchy Hicks, haha. Reba rocks, The Dixie Chicks smell like wet socks! Haha.
